For centuries the art of making music has been considered one of the highest and finest forms of all the arts. Athena's teachers are passionate about their craft, dedicated to learning and growing themselves, testing their own abilities and evolving musically with you. Athena's music cost structure is highly competitive and lessons are provided in the best of environments.

In addition to expert private tuition on all major orchestral and band instruments, as well as voice, piano and theory, Athena College offers a broad and diverse range of group courses that are detailed in this section. Feel free to browse the various options.

Private Music Lessons

Private Music at Athena means a caring and quality education by talented and driven teachers. No matter your age or ability you will receive a warm reception and notice our attention to detail. Our lessons are charged at $33 (plus GST) per half hour, below the recommended rate of the Music Teachers Assocation of Queensland, over a term period of usually approximately ten weeks.

We offer tuition in:
  • Piano
  • Brass (Trumpet/Trombone/Tuba/Baritone etc)
  • Woodwind (Flute/Clarinet/Saxophone)
  • Voice
  • Drum Kit/Percussion
  • Theory (also available as group class)
$33 plus GST per class

We provide lessons and preparation for all strands of accredited music exams, including AMEB, Trinity and ABRSM. Our teachers are qualified to prepare their students for all levels of instrumental and vocal examinations. We have had excellent results in a number of disciplines, including piano, singing, theory, cello, trumpet, flute, violin and french horn. We are proud of the results our students achieve and fully support their preparation for these exams.

There is no extra charge for lessons for students wishing to sit exams. The examining bodies do charge a fee and we are happy to process and enter all students through Athena College.

Theory of Music

Students who learn Private instruments at a serious level and undertake exams, may need to sit for Theory exams to meet conditions. Many of the skills learnt in theory are essential for the discerning musician who wishes to achieve at a high level. The perfect answer to this is a theory class at Athena. They are small enough to remain personal but large enough to have fun, and are cheaper than private tuition, everybody wins!
